Red Umbra Screenprint Commission
Role: Artist Commission
Year: 2020
Description: Artwork commission for Double Decker and Cunard. The commission involved the development of a large screen print on paper as well as the design of three digital wall panels.
Red Umbra draws upon the iconic colour red found within the Cunard archive. The colour has a very interesting history and during research sessions within the Cunard archive, I documented a vast variation in red tones. The age of the archive documents resulted in huge colour variations and I was interested in how these colour variations are visual representations of time passed.
Red Umbra aims to hint at a sense of time passing and distance travelled. The prints repeat horizontally, so that the artwork is read from left to right, suggesting a journey or a movement and referencing old Cunard track charts.
